Mara Viksnins draws on impressions from having lived in New York, Texas,
Pennsylvania, the Gulf Coast, and in Europe. While watercolor is her
favorite medium, she also enjoys collage and acrylics. Her favorite
subject is the human figure and she loves to portray small children.
She is fascinated by the old masters of the Italian Renaissance and their
ability to capture the light. She loves to paint florals and the rose is
one of her favorite themes. She is also very interested in mythology,
iconography and the religious paintings of the Middle Ages. She has
won many awards and her work has been on display at the Florida State
Capital. "Art should represent the soul of the artist and the viewer's
perception of its meaning".
