Heather Mitchell grew up in
Hawaii, and spent several years in northern California before relocating to the Gulf Coast, which she has called home for nearly 20 years. Living most of her life near the water, Heather appreciates
the beautiful natural environment of Pensacola. She draws much of her inspiration from the local wildlife,
residents and their beloved pets.
Formerly an art director
in publishing and advertising, Heather has worked in art education. She has recently returned to her love of drawing.
Heather works primarily in colored pencil, and her meticulous drawings have often been mistaken for paintings or
photographs.
Recent awards include
First Place Graphics/Drawing/Pastel in the Members' Juried Show at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, Alabama;
Merit Award at Art in the Park in Foley, Alabama; Best in Show at the Birmingham Feline Fancier's Cat Art Show;
