Becky Makla began her Art career 25rs. ago as a Graphic Artist, working for "Homes and Land" Magazine in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1986, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and continued to study Art and Art History at Georgia State University and Atlanta College of Art. She focused on 2D in drawing and painting in pastel, acrylic and oils.

Her studies included a broad range of style encompassing abstract to 3D realism. She studied with over 22 instructors, including Chris diMozio, a classical realist, who taught the 'old masters tradition' style of painting in oil.

I have always been interested in the organic modeled 3 dimensional form. When working in 2D, I explored classical portraiture in the 'old masters' tradition. I carefully was cognizant of edges- lost and found- to create the illusion of 3D. I also explored biomorphic abstracts and organic abstract expressionism.

I believe in "process over product" in the act of creating. Creating art is about connecting deep inside oneself and revealing that 'sense of life' not only to others, but to oneself. Creating art is part of self-revelation.

My recent mixed media abstract 2D paintings are symbolic and filled with intuitive expression. My concepts express my deepest concerns and repressed desires. I feel they are theraputic in their execution. Hopefully, they will cause the viewer to explore their own hidden feelings.

The whimsical character of my sculptures reflects the fun and pleasure expressing my vision has become. I would like to think that vision is contagious for those who share my sculptures with me. I want to spread my love of life.
