Everything that Michael touches expresses his creativity, whether it was his years as a continental chef or his career as an interior cabinetry designer and master craftsman. Michael received his BFA from Colby College in Waterville, Maine and spent the next few years of his life as a theatrical lighting designer at the Cleveland Playhouse, Chicago's Theatre on the Lake, and The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. While in Chicago he got his first camera and taught himself how to use it.
There are three people who have had the biggest influence on his life and work: New York Lighting designer Jean Rosenthal, who was his teacher and mentor, Edward Steichen who to him, is the father of commercial photography and South African photographer Sam Haskins, whose work never fails to overwhelm him. "To me, photography is the art of seeing. My camera is an extension of my eye, my eye an extension of my creative mind. The trick is for all three to work closely together. When this happens, it can be magical." - Michael
